University Dining Areas

University Dining has several different units. Learn more about working within each one below.

Catlett, Burge, and Hillcrest Market Places serve 10,000+ meals each day to students and guests. Associates employed in the market places perform a variety of tasks including cooking, attending to the dining rooms, cashiering, restocking food, and washing dishes. These three facilities employ the most students within University Housing and Dining, allowing you to meet new people and work a flexible schedule.

Our retail division includes several different locations across campus that provide food, beverages, and snacks to both university employees and students. East side locations include Fire Up Late Night Grill, River Room Cafe, Union Station, Pat’s Diner, Pat's Too, Food for Thought, Street Hawk Food Truck, and Power Cafe. West side locations include the Filling Station, EMRB Cafe, and Black's Gold Grill. We also have three different C-Stores located in Burge, Hillcrest, and Mayflower.

University Catering is a service for the entire University of Iowa campus and surrounding area. Some of the many locations we cater to include Iowa Memorial Union, Kinnick Stadium, Carver Hawkeye Arena, MERF, Levitt Center for Advancement, and private homes. We cater weddings, university department events, holiday parties, Dance Marathon, private parties, and summer orientations. Our student staff consists of waiters, bartenders, and delivery drivers.

This important part of University Dining provides culinary and operational support to our other areas. Positions here include delivery drivers who deliver to our retail locations, bakers in our central bakery, food service staff in the Iowa Memorial Union, and production staff in cold food production at Burge Hall.
